On most Saturdays I typically potter into town (West End) - mostly around Covent Garden and Soho - hit the cinema and do some errands and explorations - frequently grabbing a Gelato at Snowflake. If there is nothing worth seeing in the cinema I have taken to heading north to Camden for the day instead - occasionally on Sundays too.
In fact I had not been to Camden for a few years - until late May this year - probably last went a year or two before the pandemic hit even. So I was somewhat very pleasantly surprised as to how the place had evolved in the interim. Where the recent Buck Street and Hawley Wharf developments are really superb - and add a lot of extra colour in addition to the usual Inverness Street, Camden Lock and the Stables Market.
There really is a different vibe in Camden - more friendly and laid back than the West End generally - and the number and variety, innovation and quality of ’eateries’ is now quite extraordinary. The Yorkshire Burrito has become the new Sunday Lunch / Sunday Roast destination and the preferred way to eat now is gently strolling through the markets and just checking out the wanderers and wares.
I typically come back empty handed from Camden - in terms of worldly goods, but I always stop in on at least one or two or more food stalls and restaurants.
The following list contains most of my current favourites - mostly comfort food - and heavily skewed towards ’Beef’ and ’Cheese’ for whatever reason - while there are a few vegetarian and vegan options too - albeit mostly within those menus.
I’m still in the process of mentally mapping out the whole of the Camden Markets strip - and will probably do some follow-up articles on further places of interest.
Actually - I’ve realised that all these food outlets need some sort of analog order number display - as it’s often difficult to hear numbers being called out over the heavy throng of people - much better to have a sizeable 3-digit display that goes from 001 to 999 before it flips around again - that should suit most of these - Management - take note!
If you think I have overlooked something of note or you wish to share your own favourites - tthen hit up the comments below. Most modern folk should be well satisfied by the quality fare supplied by these fine food purveyors - listed alphabetically below :

HOW MUCH? : 8oz Angus Bavette Steak with Rosemary French Fries is at around £12

WHAT? - Wholly Cheese-focused restaurant chain - with restaurants now in Camden Market, The Cheese Kaiten Conveyor in Covent Garden (Seven Dials), and the Cheese Barge on the Paddington Central Canal Basin (my local!).
