Black Friday Sales started out as a uniquely American event - a sort of pre-Christmas sales event coming the first Friday after the National Thanksgiving Holiday - to commemorate the Plymoth Rock Pilgrims Landing. As it is now though, Black Friday is increasingly a global event - and has evolved in much the same way that Halloween has. Halloween never used to be celebrated in Iceland for instance, but you will find whole families involved in ’Trick and Treating’ and confectioners ...
We’ve been working with Bathrooms and Showers Direct (BASD) for nigh on a decade now and have had to handle a variety of challenges together over the years, in particular the complexities of the integration with Google Base / Google Merchant Centre which is an ongoing project with Google’s consistently evolving approach.
BASD is something of a special case in that it targets and serves both the trade, as well as domestic customers through the same ecommerce website, i.e. ...
After Americans have gorged themselves on Turkey, many of them feel the need to gorge themselves on ’bargains’ which go on sale the day after Thanksgiving. The UK has always had the Boxing Day sales, but somehow we have become entangled in Black Friday now too . Many retailers, and particularly Amazon have made a significant feature of this for several years now - even offering daily bargains in the week leading up to the big day itself.
For Retail / Consumer Psychologists ...
I’m all for propriety, due consideration and a degree of neutrality, but the PC-correctness bandwagon is somewhat rolling out of control at the moment. People are finding fault with every single type of behaviour and innocent activity - even children’s dressing-up is now often being branded as racism and cultural (mis-) appropriation! As kids in Iceland, we used to play a lot of ’cowboys and indians’ after the comic books we read and movies and TV series we watched - and...
I have been writing for several years now about the need for retailers to fully integrate their online / digital and in-store services - i.e. evolve a properly joined-up service solution. Most high street retailers still maintain several different disparate inventories - physical stores, online and outlet for instance. This usually means that there is typically no correlation between what you search for on your desktop or mobile and what is available in-store. It usually means that you receive ...
Empowering your customers to be consistently within easy reach of around-the-clock services is what will secure the future success of your business. What this means is that businesses need to put more effort into a seamless customer experience across all contact points.
For most people now, the mobile phone / smartphone is their most used / accessible device - typically within arm’s reach at all times. Already several individuals have huge parts of their lives entirely committed ...
Christmas comes around again, and the madness of Christmas shopping descends upon us once more. In previous years I plan the campaign many weeks in advance and have a list with names and intended gifts. I then typically spend one weekend shopping in-Town (Saturday + Sunday), in my case West End London first weekend in December; and anything I don’t buy in-store on Saturday or Sunday, I order online on the Sunday night.
There is a vast difference to shopping online and shopping on the High ...
A recent report ’The Connected Kingdom’ commissioned by Google and carried out by US consultancy - Boston Consulting Group, finds that the Internet contributed some £100bn or 7.2% of UK gross domestic product in 2009.
This £100bn figure is said to be a conservative estimate, and excludes business-to-business eCommerce which is a £360bn per year market alone.
Of the £100bn figure, half of this is estimated to be consumer eCommerce, £10bn is for internet ...

Affino were thoroughly responsive and communicated well throughout and their team were friendly and willing to help us achieve our ambitious goals. We’re very pleased with the modern and professional look and feel of the new website and users have been similarly impressed. Several of the bespoke elements added to the database platform have enhanced our ability to analyse our data and the platform works smoothly and reliably. Affino’s work has helped us to scale up our operations as well as grow and strengthen our brand."
"A very easy to use and highly functional experience, the new site looks fantastic - we've ended up with a great final product after a really positive and smooth running operation.
