Much like with Record Store Day, I consider myself a little too old to be queueing with the masses - for the chance of 5 flimsy collectibles - which will most likely end up being compiled into a compendium volume at a later date anyhow. I am almost entirely TP-based (Trade Paperback) these days - preferring a more solid volume with a full narrative arc, versus collecting episodically. I also tend to find those collected volumes keep better than the paper covered slivers.
I would say I ...
In years past I have singled out various bits of new Star Wars merch for your purchasing consideration. This time I will just give you two links - one to Lego (here) and one to Forbidden Planet (there) - those should both sate your cravings for new Star Wars memorabilia.
Instead, we turn our attention back to the original universe that started / spawned this whole journey / saga we now celebrate - the still most significant cinema event of my life - when I first saw Star Wars ’A ...
We are currently living through the second golden age of comics, their influence is everywhere, and never has more money been generated by this industry - whether through actual comics and books, film or TV tie-ins or the widest possible range of toys, merch and memorabilia. There are 3 big annual conventions in London, and this one (LSCC) seeks to distinguish itself by being overwhelmingly about the actual comic books and the artists and authors that make them.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away....
Star Wars was my introduction to Science Fiction, and has been a significant presence in my life ever since I watched it as child of 8 with my brothers and a gang of kids from the neighbourhood. In Iceland there was a 12 year age limit on the film, but our flight-engineer neighbour chaperoned us kids and pushed the protesting cinema ushers out of the way.
I was mesmerized from the very first minute - the 20th Century Fox logo ...
Following on swiftly form Record Store Day - that is to say the 1st Saturday in May, we have Free Comic Book Day - where you can pick up a bag of free swag at your local comics emporium. I will be making the usual trip to one of my favourite London stores - Forbidden Planet on Shaftersbury Avenue.
My two current favourite comics / graphic novel series are both from Image Comics, which has kind of overtaken Vertigo as my current favourite Imprint. The latest collected volumes for each ...
Just a fortnight after Record Store Day - we have Free Comic Book Day to cheer us up - it takes place on the first Saturday in May (today!).
Comic Book Stores mean much more than just cartoon strips; my favourite - ’Forbidden Planet’ on Saftesbury Avenue stocks an enormous collection of Comics and Graphic Novels, Books, DVDs, Figurines, Art, Toys, and Collectables. I’ve been a long-term fan of comics, from an early obsession with Commando and Starblazer, DC and Marvel...
